Launching May 20th, the André Cailloux Center proudly introduces its all-new Culture & History Tours, a bold, immersive experience along the city’s oldest road. Led by our expert guides—your “Freedom Train Conductors”—this 45-minute journey takes you through historic Bayou Road in Tremé, tracing the footsteps of Captain André Cailloux, one of the first Black officers in the Union Army and a symbol of unshakable courage. Your tour includes: A powerful one-man theatrical performance bringing Captain Cailloux’s story to life in his own words Visits to significant landmarks like St. Rose de Lima Church Augmented Reality enhancements placing you on the battlefield beside the Louisiana Native Guard A chance to symbolically join the Guard and carry the legacy forward Step into Cailloux’s shoes.
